Representatives of Nordic embassies and companies joined their local partners from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at Masdar City in Abu Dhabi on 21 January to launch the green business intelligence program for the region.
To coincide with the launch of the business intelligence program, a launch event was also held for the Nordic Innovation Hub. The twin launches marked the start of two initiatives, each of which is designed to contribute in its way to increased exports of Nordic expertise, technology and solutions to the Gulf region in general and the UAE in particular.
The speakers included Mohammed Al Fardan, director of the Masdar City project. Masdar City is a planned green community in Abu Dhabi, based on renewable energy and sustainable solutions such as solar panels and zero-energy buildings.
Mr Al Fardan explained how the Masdar City project, both as a physical location and as a network, will support the development of green businesses in the region. Masdar and its business partners are playing a key role in UAE government efforts to attract expertise and technology in future growth sectors. Green technology is central to these efforts.
The business intelligence program brings together Green Business Norway, GreenNet Finland and Nordic Innovation to promote best-practice solutions (BAT) in green technology from the Nordic countries and build relationships with local partners. “The process is already well under way, and we have high expectations for what we can achieve in this region over the years ahead,” said Thor Sverre Minnesjord, CEO of Green Business Norway.
Nordic Innovation Hub is an incubator supporting Nordic businesses aiming to establish a presence in Abu Dhabi.
Business Intelligence Program Gulf Region-UAE is a joint initiative by Green Business Norway (GBN), GreenNet Finland and Nordic Innovation. Thanks to this partnership, GBN’s proven methods for market intelligence, market development, marketing and government relations are now available to businesses throughout the Nordic countries that have identified potential opportunities in the United Arab Emirates and the wider Gulf region.
